REPORTS of a person possibly in danger on a South Shields clifftop led to Tynemouth RNLI lifeboat launching early on Friday morning.

A dog walker called police with concerns he had about a person near the edge of cliff at the Leas.  UK Coastguard’s Humber Operations Centre were requested to assist and tasked the all weather lifeboat at 01:24. The lifeboat returned to the Tyne and after refuelling arrived back on station at 03:10.
